Do a little dance
Saturday September 25th
2pm - 6pm
Followed by the Soapbox Saturday Cabaret
Do a little dance is inspired by a Youtube video of a Swedish police officer dancing in the street. In the video the officer is recorded joyously moving his body to Girls’ Night Out by The Knife. The song is playing from the officer's police van. In this moment of performance the Swedish officer demonstrates the euphoria of dancing both for himself and his audience; the video sparks a reminder that we are living.
Do a little dance is an invitation to all of Brooklyn's police force to come to Soapbox Gallery on September 25th, 2010 and Do, just as the Swedish police officer did, a little dance. In the gallery, Brooklyn’s officers will be given time, space and music to Do a little dance for themselves, for those passing by and for the world to see via live-feed. In this work trained authority will have an unassuming presence in community, as well as, be given a platform to enjoy the constructs and abilites of their body through dance.
